Our weekend, the good, the bad and the ugly!

Rich is a member of the local Eagles Club. Saturday was the family picnic. Free to members. They had a pig roast, free beer and everyone brought a dish to pass. It was all really good and of course we ate too much. We also got asked to help out on the social committee. Mostly because we go to most all the dances and bring about 6-10 people with us. They have been trying to get us to teach dance at the club. We are so out of practice we step on each other, but they say we look good on the dance floor. That's because we just laugh it off and keep going. We know we screwed up but they don't see it. If they learned to dance they would see our screw ups and we wouldn't look so good. Truth is, I don't have the patients to teach. We tried to teach some friends and it's hard, especially when the guy has no rhythm.

When the picnic was almost over we got a call from our Friends that we rode to WI with. (The long weekend!) If you recall this is the couple with the age difference. He is 74 and she is 49. She does not drive and she wanted to know if we could pick them up from the hospital if she had to call an ambulance.

Back to the beginning: He had a bandage on the outside of his forearm during the weekend of the 4TH from what he thought was an injury of some kind the day before we left home. He said he didn't even know anything was wrong till he was in the shower and felt the sting from the water and it looked like the skin was scraped off an area of about 1" x 3". He put some antibiotic ointment on it and wrapped it up to keep it clean while on the road and took the bandage off for air while just hanging out. About a week later it looked infected so he went to the doctor and got antibiotics. It seemed like it was getting better. Then when the antibiotics where gone it started to get ugly looking again so they put him on stronger drugs. That didn't work either. He went back and this time they took cultures of the area, did some blood testing and gave him a new antibiotic. He had an allergic reaction from this last one and when she called us they had him on Benadryl and a different antibiotic. He was running a fever and just not doing very well at all. We stopped at their house and he had a rash and fever but wanted to give the aspirin and Benadryl a chance to work so we headed home and told them to call us if they needed any thing.

I feel SOOOO BAD! We plugged the phone into the charger and went to bed. Usually we hear it upstairs even if we are sleeping so I didn't think any thing of it. We turned the window air conditioner on and sure enough we didn't hear it ring. The next morning we had 2 messages from her asking for a ride home. She had to call an ambulance. The rash got worse and he was hardly able to walk. No thanks to us she did find a way home, but they kept him. They are waiting for the results of the blood tests and cultures. Now they are talking about maybe Limes disease. Possibly he was bit by a tick or spider. Which makes more sense then an injury that he never felt.

Yesterday she asked if we could take her to the hospital to visit him after she got off work. (4:30) We where out on the boat, an hour and 10 minutes away from home, but we told her we would be there at 5:00. That would give her time to get cleaned up from work. We had a real nice day on the river with some friends that we haven't seen for a while and cut it short to head home. We had time so we decided to get a bite to eat before heading over to their house to pick her up. She called and said she had got off work early and her neighbor took her up there and he was wanting to go to sleep so she was home already.

So now we are waiting to see just what the hell this is. It's been over a month now and it looks worse than ever. I am going to pick her up from work and take her up to visit so hopefully they will have more info by then.
