17th Annual Bon Fire Party

On Saturday the we had our 17th Annual Bon Fire Party. It was a total success. The weather was perfect for a fire and we had allot of friends, laughter, food and drink.

Neither my kids or Rich's kids made it to the party. His son stopped by early and said he would not make it because he had a date, his daughter lives in AZ...her in-laws live 40 miles NE of us and they came. We get along real well and enjoy their company.

My oldest son rarely makes it...he always has something going on. My youngest son was going to be here, but he dropped a load in San Antonio on Friday and was suppose to come straight back. He said he would take the last shift sleeping so he could make it for the party. Once he got unloaded, his dispatcher told him to go to Laredo TX to meet a driver bringing a load from Mexico. They were suppose to meet by 8 am at the latest but the driver from Mexico didn't get there till noon. He told my son he was early and had time to stop for a while. He then passed out and didn't wake up early enough. My son said he looked pretty rough and smelt like he had a hangover. They made it to Laredo at 3 am and hoped he would be early.

Something strange happened at the party. We have a friend who is a serious alcoholic. She disappeared for a while so I came in to check on her...she falls allot. We have a closet in the office just outside of the bathroom. It doesn't have a door on it because we recently replaced an interior wall there and we just haven't gotten around to putting a door on it yet. Rich uses the downstairs bathroom because we have a very light colored carpet upstairs and since he is a mechanic, he doesn't go upstairs till he gets cleaned up. I have two hampers in the downstairs closet for him...one for uniforms and one for his underwear and socks. I came around the corner to see her closing the lid on his dirty underwear hamper. I think she was stashing a bottle there so she could grab it on the way to the bathroom. She likes the hard stuff and we only had beer, pop, and water for the party. Her boyfriend doesn't want her drinking the hard stuff, so she sneaks it.

When she tries to quit she has seizures. She needs help but she won't listen to anyone. One day when I took her shopping...she has no license...DUI...she said she needed to eat because she was getting the shakes. She said her sugar was low. The truth is, she was going through withdrawals and by the time we got to the restaurant she was shaking so bad she couldn't find her mouth with the beer bottle and had it all over her. She ordered a shot and couldn't hold the shot glass still enough to get it to her mouth. She finally used her water straw to drink it and almost knocked it off the table with the straw. I was worried she was going to have a seizure before she could get the shot drank. After a shot and a beer her shaking finally started to slow down. She ordered a grilled cheese and only ate two bites of it. Her arms and legs are nothing but skin and bones, I think that is why she has so much trouble walking. She has no muscle left to carry her self. I thought about video taping her because she thinks she is handling it and thinks no one can tell she is that bad. She has excuses for the falling...her knees are bad...her back gave out...she blames the shakes on low sugar.

How many people think I can get her to seek help by showing her a video of herself. I think if she could only see herself, it might be enough to get her to go for help. I would even help her get through it. She is younger than I am and she is physically like an 80 year old woman. Has any one got any other ideas that might get her to think about what she is doing to herself? She has to want to quit or it will never work.

there are some people that just don't want help, as much as you try to be a good samaritan. They don't appreciate it, and until they realize that you are a friend and really want to help, I would just NOT INVITE this friend to your home anymore. It is causing you too much aggravation to see this person decline and is better to remember them, as they were . . .

until they come to a revelation and ask you to help
